At the Oxford Brookes BabyLab, we have created a mobile app that you can use to track the vocabulary development of your children. This free app allows you to record words that your baby begins understanding or saying in real time! Our app shows a range of statistics about your child's word learning, for example, the number of words over time (per week, month or overall) or the number of words that your child knows in each country (e.g. animals, toys, food). Our interactive interface allows you to treasure your child's first words!
Parents of bilingual and multilingual babies can also use the app to track their infant's vocabulary development in each language. The app covers 15 languages: Arabic, Czech, English, French, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.
Using our app will also help science by showing us how babies develop language over time! The information collected on the app will be uploaded onto an Oxford Brookes University secure database. The data (no personal or identifiable details) will then be available to the research community and interested academics to help further the understanding of how young children’s vocabulary develops.
